Hey Space Cadets, yet another blog about marketing. I can hear your collective groans and mutters of not more from here, but hear me out. Let’s jump into the deep end and learn to swim together. Remember, I’m no expert so this is just what I’m doing and it seems to be working for the moment. As things change, I’ll adapt which is a major key to success in many of life’s adventures.
Onward and upward, now we’ll discuss another author platform! I have a public Facebook page that I freely share. I’m not huge on social media so this is purely my authors platform – JR the private citizen doesn’t have any social media. This is where my readers can find information about me – I accept friend requests from readers. I try to answer all questions from my fans, and I don’t worry about how many of those there might be. I am in several author and writing groups on my Facebook account. I mine the heck out of these for useful information, while try to avoid being there to long. I don’t want to fall down the Zuckerberg well, it’s long, deep and I heard that the landing is painful. Facebook has author pages, which I chose not to use. I am sure there are pros and cons; however, I don’t know what they are. I chose the one that suited my needs, seeking to limit my time not writing.
I also have a Twitter account, @jr_handley. I am not sure how much this helps me with the sale of my books. However, I am of the mind set – the more I am out there, the better my chances of being found. I am constantly getting new followers – just not sure how this translates to sales.
Good Reads is another platform I am on. I have an author’s page there and have all of my books listed. I take questions on Good Reads and will answer one a week, more if I have time. So far, I haven’t had many.
Even with all of these platforms, I am not real comfortable with an author’s pages yet. Well actually, I am perfectly comfortable with other author’s pages. I’m just not comfortable talking about me. However, I have an author page on Amazon, my Facebook page, GoodReads and About Me on my website.
Well, that is all for today – I hope this helps you.
Until next time, stay frosty and don’t forget to keep your powder dry.
JR
–>As usual, all images came from the Google’s “labeled for reuse” section or are videos used by JR Handley for use under fair doctrine.
Keep at it! I’m a firm believer that the more social media platforms you create and keep up with, the better your chances of landing a wider audience for your books. It’s a slow and repetitive process, but getting that traffic, those sales, and your own recognition will feel great!

I find Goodreads nearly useless, myself. Le sigh…

I’m not in any fb groups yet. I’ve tried a few & not found them helpful. Maybe it’s time to look again.

I like the business oriented ones, versus the socializing themed ones. Send me a note on FB and I’ll recommend a few!

I will now follow your FB page in a friendly, non-stalky kind of way. You know how I love my social media!

Frankly speaking, I find Facebook is very difficult to get organic viewers. The ads are great addition but they tend to become a little more expensive these days. Still, those Likes from Facebook ads do not carry a good rate of organic viewers.
Enough ranting 🙂
I have heard Pinterest is an ideal social media platform these days. I’d really like to hear your take on that thought.

Interesting, I’m still learning so I’ll be the first to admit that there’s a lot I don’t know! Thank you for sharing your experiences. As for Pintrest, I hadn’t heard it being used for marketing, I’ll look into it!

Sorry about that, you should reach out to WordPress’s customer service types! They’re very helpful, and can fix it for you.
