Hey Space Cadets, I hope everyone is doing amazing today! I wanted to show you my latest achievement during this COVID lockdown! I managed to get my small Victory Garden up and running! I don’t have a large useable yard, but I have a 5-foot by 5-foot concrete patio that I can use. With few options, I planted a small bucket garden, which I’m very proud of. This is my first garden; I’ve never even had a house plant before this. Luckily, my mother-in-law was raised in the sticks and knew what she was about. We appointed her the Gardener General, and she showed us the ways of the hillbilly hick! Shh, don’t tell her that I said that!
A little bit about my process, in case you were curious! I used 5-gallon buckets that I bought from Lowe’s Hardware store, nothing exceptional about them other than that they were on sale. I then drilled holes in the bottom of them and lined the bucket with small rocks to prevent the dirt from coming out. Then I added potting soil that I enriched with used coffee grounds and planted my crops. For my first attempt, I wasn’t very ambitious, I planted things that the General said were idiot-proof; cilantro, basil, thyme, lavender, potatoes, cherry tomatoes, and red peppers. Even if all of this year’s crop die, I learned that I can apply next year. This isn’t a one and done thing for me, I plan on continuing to maintain a garden for many years to come.
What about you, or any of you guys gardeners? What kind of stuff to you? Seriously, this has become something of interest in, so I’ll happily listen to your green thumb stories!
Until next time, stay frosty, and don’t forget to keep your powder dry!
