Hey Space Cadets, how’re you doing today?  I’m sucking wind, trying not to self-destruct from a Daylight Savings Time gone horribly wrong.  Tell me again why this is necessary?  Sigh, back to other more pleasant things.  I’ve finished the developmental edits of No Marine Left Behind with my editor, Corey.  Now the piece of literary excellence is off to Thomas and his Red Pen of Doom for a final copy edit.  I hope to have more information about that one to you soon.  My editing team’s also deep into their edits for Operation Breakout, and I should be publishing it next month.  More updates and publishing news to come soon.

You can still get the prequel novella, The Demons of Kor-Lir, by signing up for my newsletter.  Also, Boss Man has a new short story coming out for free if you sign up for his newsletter and I recommend it!  I’ll be sending out a newsletter soon with more information, but until then let’s move on to today’s Marine Monday.  Hopefully you’ll enjoy the journey!

Today I was leaked, by our friendly neighborhood LegionLeak source, the official vehicle stats of the Stork Class Shuttle. Enjoy the read, but please remember to destroy this message after reading it so the anonymous source can live long enough to continually feed us excellent intelligence!  Without further ado, here is the leaked document!

Hey Space Cadets, how’re you doing today?  I’m doing good, coming down from my editing high.  Corey and I just spent four hours reading through the first 14 chapters of Operation Breakout, with another longer session planned for tomorrow to get through to chapter 30.  Tomorrow I also have an interview with The Listeners of the Dead Robot Society, one of my favorite podcasts!  I’ll share before it goes live, though I won’t know the exact date right away.  And I’ll try not to look too much like an idiot, I promise!!  Finally, I’ve made good progress on my submission for the Four Horsemen Anthology.

Now, on to today’s Marine Monday!  For today’s chat let’s talk about what was leaked to me by our friendly neighborhood LegionLeak source!  We have the official bio of Field Marshal Tirunesh Nhlappo.  Now the important parts!  Remember, destroy this message after reading it so the anonymous source can live long enough to continually feed us excellent intelligence!  Without further ado, here is the leaked document!

Hey Space Cadets, how is everyone today?  I’m great, I’ve finished my first Sleeping Legion short story and am starting another in the Four Horsemen universe before jumping into book four. I’ll be co-writing with Corey Truax, my current editor, and fellow author and Mesopotamian Veteran. This story is the tale of an intergalactic bounty hunter, with loads of shenanigans and insanity to follow.  If this co-writing works out, Corey and I will write a new series, which we’ve titled “The Odera Chronicles.”

Okay, so on to our regularly scheduled Marine Monday! Today I was leaked, by our friendly neighborhood LegionLeak source, the official bio of New Order Janissary Zempi Milisyen-Hoia. Now the important parts!  Remember, destroy this message after reading it so the anonymous source can live long enough to continually feed us excellent intelligence!  Without further ado, here is the leaked document!

Hey Space Cadets, how is everyone today?  I’m great, I have my wife and mother just finished making their final pass through Operation Breakout before I send it out to my editors, Corey and Thomas.  I’m VERY excited to get that to market and see what readers think of the book.  I’m currently 6k words into a short story, which I’ve tentatively titled “No Marine Left Behind” and I’m very excited about it.  It was my first attempt at a purposely written short story, and my writing progress has improved because of it.  It’s been through one developmental editing pass, and if you need to know more about that you can read about it from my editor by clicking here.

After I finish, I’ll be co-writing another short story for an anthology with best-selling author Chris Kennedy.  My new co-author will be Corey Truax, my current editor and fellow Mesopotamian Veteran.  Yes, you are right to imagine the shenanigans which will follow!  I’ll tell you more about it as we get closer but I will be finishing my Sleeping Legion Series before I jump into anything after my current two short stories.  When I need a break from Maternal Vengeance, I’ll hop over onto a few short stories, but then I want to charge full bore towards the Sleeping Legion Finish Line!

Okay, so on to our regularly scheduled Marine Monday! Today I was leaked, by our friendly neighborhood LegionLeak source, the official bio of Marine Sashala Kraevoi.  I’m currently working on a short story about her journey into The Sleeping Legion.  It’s been hard for her, but you’ll appreciate her appearance in Fortress Beta City and later in Operation Breakout even more after this.  Now the important parts!  Remember, destroy this message after reading it so the anonymous source can live long enough to continually feed us excellent intelligence!  Without further ado, here is the leaked document!

Marine Monday: Vengeance Class Fighter

Hey Space Cadets, how are you doing?  Things are good here, my mother is finally getting her house repaired from Hurricane Matthew.  Working with insurance proved to be a nightmare, and her whole block looks like it’s a construction zone.  Sad to see the neighborhood where I grew up in such disrepair. Also, my editor and friend, Corey, finalized his move. One less stressful thing for him to worry about, now I get to pester him again! I didn’t hit my 60K goal for this weekend, but I came close and I have outlined up to the big climatic battle.  Afterwards, I just have to write the battle scene which are generally fun and easy to write.

So, onto today’s Marine Monday!  Today we’ve got another missive from our LegionLeaks hero!  We will be able to take a look at the classified data known on the New Order’s Vengeance Class Fighter Aircraft.  Take a look!

Marine Monday: Sangurian’s

Hey Space Cadets, how’re you all doing this fine Monday?  Here in the States it’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day so we’ve enjoyed the three-day weekend.  Played games with the kids, went for walks and enjoyed the nature around us.  I didn’t post a blog yesterday, and for that I’m sorry.  I had to get my computer fixed, and then got lost in the sauce working on Operation Breakout.  I really feel like you’re going to love this one, it has more action than the first two and we explore the culture of the Human Legion Universe even more.

Another quick update, there is an official Facebook page for fans of the Human Legion Universe.  Right now it’s new and only includes Tim C. Taylor, Corey the Editor and yours truly!  If you want to join, hop on over to the new page and start a conversation or two.  And speaking of hopping… let’s talk about rabbits.  No, seriously, today’s post is about the Sangurian species.  They’re humanoid rabbit warriors, who came close to annihilation after a failed revolution against their capricious White Knight Imperial Overlords.  Like in many cases, when you revolt and fail it goes badly for you and yours.  In this case, very badly.

Because I know you’d rather see how the sausage is made than hear me bloviate, here is a look at the Sangurians.  I have it on good authority from that mysterious LegionLeak warrior – these documents are true and were stolen from the deepest digital vaults.  Don’t believe me?  Take a look and see for yourself.  I even hired the best translators in the metaverse since I don’t read White Knight Imperial Standard.

Also, in case you were curious about what I visualized when reading these purloined documents, I grabbed a screen shot from Google.  I own none of the rights to these, so I’m only showing you what you could see in the same search I made.  Hope it sparks some creative juices for everyone!  If you’ve got similar creatures in your works, or read of them, please start a conversation here or on the Facebook fan group.

Marine Monday: SA-71(h) Carbine

Standard

sleepinglegion_logo_nov2016_02_blackbg

Hello Space Cadets, it’s that time again!  Another entry in the Marine Monday Series where I introduce you to the world I get the privilege to write in.  Last time I gave you an overview of the term Marine, as it relates to the larger world, today we dive into the nitty-gritty.  This time I have even juicier information from my Legion Leaks informant, so pull up a chair!  The Sleeping Legion Series, which I kick into high gear with some badass gear, will carry on until I run out of stuff to say!  Since I’ve never been the quiet type, I doubt this will be an issue!  Eventually, after I’ve a few Sleeping Legion books under my belt, I’ll start adding some of my New Carthage Series world building.  Maybe shift the name a bit to ease confusion?

Now let’s get to it!  The Human Legion Universe is a military science fiction world set in the distant future where humanity is enslaved to the White Knights, a race of aliens who rule through force and delegation.  We know little of this mysterious race of creatures, except that they value change and encourage mutation as a celebration of this change.  Basically, they’re Darwinism on crack.  When the Marines of the Human Legion abandoned the Tranquility System, my story takes off.  What happened to those left behind in the grueling war for freedom and independence?  Can the Marines left to fend for themselves survive on their own?

A little about humanity, well at least those humans enslaved into service.  They’re the backbone of the Human Marine Corps and later the Human Legion Marine Corps.  In the absence of their Jotun officers, they must struggle to create a new Marine Corps, one capable of not just surviving but of thriving.  To do that, these Marines need weapons with which to wage this war.  The staple weapon of the Human Marine Corps (later Human Legion) is the SA-71(h) Assault Carbine.  For ease of use, I’ll simply refer to them as the Human Legion from here on out.

According to the official record, the SA-71 is designed to be the main assault weapon for space-borne humanoid troops. The (h) sub-variant has been adapted slightly to suit human physiology and responsibility level, but the ammunition and control systems are compatible with other weapons throughout the SA-70 range.

The SA-71 is a versatile carbine, which has four features, and allows Marines to spread their lethal will across the galaxy.  My favorite part of the carbine is that it has an assault cutter for use in close quarters combat, which is a modern variant of the concept of a bayonet.  These cutters are a series of monofilament teeth which can be extended from the end of the gun barrel. They rotate at 1000 rpm for maximum penetration, eviscerating human and alien flesh.  Care should be taken if the cutters are employed in a lateral, raking motion as the blades may snap off.

Another feature of the carbine is the grenade launcher which sits under the main carbine barrel, and fires specialty munitions from the launch tube, providing each fire team with capabilities similar to that of mortar launchers of old.  While many Marine units were discontinuing the grenade launcher, replacing the capability by an improved supply of specialist munitions fired through the railgun, this changed when the Human Legion revived older tactics.  Instead, the Human Legion included both features and improved upon the existing grenades.

Some features of the carbine which are rarely used, due to their inefficiencies are the built-in beam weapon and x-ray weapon modes.  These features never really see the light of day in my series, or in Tim’s but maybe they’ll prove their worth in some unusual way in the future.  It’s a big, bad galaxy after all!

The best and most exciting feature of the SA-71 Assault Carbine is the railgun, the main functional mode of this powerful carbine.  Like all railguns, it operates by using electrical charges applied to superconductor rails that run along the gun barrel.  The rails are arranged in a helical pattern to impart spin to the round as it leaves the muzzle, improving accuracy.  The ammunition management system supplies the selected round and fits it to a sabot created on the fly through its sabot resin reservoir.  The sabot ensures optimum super-conductance and mechanically fits to the rails.  Sabots also permit the standard kinetic round to be much smaller than the railgun caliber thus allowing ammunition cartridges to hold many more rounds.  On full power, the railgun generates enormous heat and imparts a heavy recoil force at the breech of the weapon.  If the recoil dampening system is not overcome by sustained fully automatic fire, this energy is automatically absorbed at up to 80% efficiency, used to heat the reservoir of sabot resin, and recharge the weapon’s power pack.  In limited-gravity environments the motors in an ACE-series battlesuit can cancel most of the remaining recoil automatically.

Later, if I can sneak it past security I’ll post a more comprehensive list of weapons available to the Human Legion.  Gotta be careful, or I’ll end up as Snowden’s roomie in Siberia!

Until next time, stay frosty and don’t forget to keep your powder dry!
